Media Coverage

A young man from the local PBS affiliate, WPSU-TV, did a little piece on the Top Secret Scooter Club this evening. I listened carefully to the questions he asked everyone and those questions draw a little picture of what people think of scooters...

"Why did you buy a scooter instead of a real motorcycle?" and "How do you feel at the gas pump when buying gas?" And always "How fast can you go?" I'm not sure what they'll make if it but I'm always fascinated by how people perceive the Vespa.

This Friday evening at 11:30 PM on WPSU-TV. We'll see....

That "real mortorcycle" one always gets me... Too closed minded to see that a scooter is just a different flavor of motorcycle. They never believe me when I point out that Ducati got its start building scooters.

Scooter seem like toys when compared to the complicated machines that make up the motorcycle world in the United States. We have a long love affair with powerful machines of every sort from Shop Vacs and lawn mowers to motorcycles and cars. It's hard for many people to consider a scooter a serious form of transportation when they think an automobile might not be a safe enough so they better get an SUV.

I think rising fuel prices may sway the thinking of some but it will be a slow process. I'm working on a post about what one gives up to ride.
